A Different Kind of School

Northwood is not a traditional classroom.

It is a small learning community of 7-15 learners where children are entrusted with real responsibility for their learning.

Instead of lectures and busywork, learners spend their days:

  • building strong reading and math skills

  • working on meaningful, real-world projects

  • engaging in Socratic discussions

  • spending time outdoors exploring and learning in nature

Northwood blends focused work with freedom, curiosity, and character development. This is a learning environment designed to help children grow not just academically, but as capable, independent individuals.

What is an Acton Academy?

Acton Academy is a global network of learner-driven schools that empower young people to take ownership of their education. Instead of traditional teaching, learners work at their own pace, engage in real-world projects, and build independence, responsibility, and critical thinking.
